About the Event

Every writer’s process is different. Who says you have to compose music on a piano or read sheet music to be musical? Yve Blake is a composer who doesn't play a single musical instrument, and can't read a note of music - and yet she wrote the book, music and lyrics to an AWGIE award-winning musical. So, no matter your level of musical 'ability', Yve will take you through her methods of how to get started writing a musical on your own terms, and how to keep going!

Getting started can be the hardest part of the writing process, and Yve has a particular knack and passion for empowering young artists to find their voice. Yve will cover songwriting and composition for people who don’t play an instrument, how to generate ideas and material, and how to take your writing to that next stage of development once the first draft is done. The session is practical, fun and suitable for performers, theatremakers and writers of all levels; if musicals are your jam and you want to know how to write one, this workshops for you.
