About the Event

The 1:1 Chats are a monthly online interview series delving into craft and process with industry professionals across the spectrum of disciplines in music theatre.

Yve Blake is an award-winning playwright, screenwriter, composer and performer. She is best known as the creator of the hit musical FANGIRLS for which she wrote the book, music and lyrics. FANGIRLS which looks like a story about girls who love boy bands, but instead allows those teen girls to take centre stage. It asks us to examine how we expect young women to see themselves, celebrates their love, and glories in their true, unlimited power.

FANGIRLS premiered in 2019 Queensland Theatre and Belvoir to multiple five-star reviews and sell-out crowds, before winning the 2019 Sydney Theatre Award for Best Mainstage Musical, the Matilda Award for Best Musical or Cabaret, and the 2020 AWGIE award for Music Theatre. In 2021, FANGIRLS is completing a second national tour, and is soon to release a Studio Cast Recording.

Yve is also an alumni of the Royal Court Writers’ Programme, and has been a visiting artist at Princeton University. Her 2019 TEDxSydney talk “For the love of Fangirls” has been promoted to an official TED talk on TED.com, where it has been viewed over 1 million times.

Her current projects under commission include a feature film for Aquarius films, a family movie musical for Mark Gordon Productions, and a podcast musical about Mary Wollstonecraft for Playful Productions.
